Ethylene oxide is an organic compound with the chemical formula C2H4O that was formerly used to make fungicides.
It is also used in the manufacture of other chemicals, mainly ethylene glycol. It is secondarily used in the production of downstream products such as ethoxylates, ethanolamines and glycol ethers.
It is also used in the manufacture of synthetic detergents, nonionic surfactants, antifreeze, emulsifiers, and glycol-containing products, as well as in the production of plasticizers, lubricants, rubber and plastics.
